In accordance with a new Presidential Order, the National Electoral Commission has scheduled the July 14 and 15, 2024, elections for the position of President of the Republic and certain Members of Parliament (Deputies).

On December 11, 2023, the Presidential Order pertaining to the elections of the Republic’s President and Deputies was released in the Official Gazette.

It specifies that the same dates will be used for the election of the President and the 53 Deputies (MPs), who will be chosen from a final list of names submitted by political organizations or by independent candidates.

Part of the Presidential Order states, “Monday, July 15, 2024, is the polling date throughout the country for the President of the Republic and 53 Deputies elected from a final list of names of candidates proposed by political organizations or for independent candidates.”
On Sunday, July 14, 2024, the diaspora is to cast their votes for their favorite presidential and legislative candidates, according to the Presidential order.

This development comes after the Republic of Rwanda’s Constitution was revised to permit simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections (for the 53 MPs listed above), among other modifications. On August 4, 2023, the Republic of Rwanda’s Constitution was published in the Official Gazette.
